Collection: Sarah Chen

Mastering the delicate boundary between photography and painting, Sarah Chen's work challenges our understanding of reality and perception. Her large-scale oil paintings capture fleeting moments of urban life with such precision that viewers often mistake them for photographs. Yet it's the subtle departures from pure photographic accuracy – a slightly amplified reflection, a deeper shadow, an impossibly perfect moment of light – that reveal the true artistry of her work.

Drawing from decades of classical training and countless hours observing city life, Chen spends months on each piece, building layers of detail that surpass what any camera could capture. Her recent series "Glass Hours" explores the interplay of light, architecture, and human movement in the financial districts of global cities. Through her brush, mundane moments – a businessman checking his watch, rain drops on a taxi window, morning light hitting steel and glass – become meditations on modern life and our relationship with the built environment. Chen's work has been acquired by major museums including the Whitney and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and she has held solo exhibitions in New York, London, and Hong Kong.
